Sashane Perera first got involved in theatre at the age of 14, playing the Fool in “King Lear” in 2001, and thereafter, in “Henry V” and “Julius Caesar”, the latter of which he won Best Actor for, in the role of Antony at the Shakespeare Drama competition.. He also took part in Feroze Kamardeen’s productions of “Romeo and Juliet”, “Venice”, “Pusswedilla” and “Widows”, as well as Chamat’s “Enemy of the People”, Jehan Aloysius’ “Day Will Comes”, Tracy Holsinger’s “Looking Through The Glass” and Anushka Senanayake’s “Time and Motion”.
Sashane has directed numerous schools for the Inter-school Shakespeare competition over a span of nine years, securing championships for Ave Maria Convent, D. S. Senanayake College and Visaka Vidyalaya.
He has been a part of the StageLight & Magic theatre company (SLM) for 15 years, taking on varied roles, including production, lights, sound, backstage and front of house, under his mentor, Feroze. He subsequently started directing under the SLM banner in 2012, with shows like “Men Without Shadows” (2014), “Lungs” (2016), and “Every Brilliant Thing” (2018). “Fun Home” (2018), “Hamlet A Elisie’s Bar” (2019), “RENT” (2020)
