What are cookies?

Cookies are small text files that are automatically placed onto your device by some websites that you visit. They are widely used to allow a website to function as well to provide website operators with information on how the site is being used.

Our cookies help us:

  • Make our website work as you'd expect
  • Remember your settings during and between visits
  • Improve the speed/security of the site
  • Continuously improve our website for you

First Party Cookies

Our first party cookies are set by the Young Vic's website and are required to perform basic functionality, such as keeping you logged in whilst you move around our website.

Some of the functionality that first party cookies on our website provide:

  • Determining if you are logged in or not
  • Remembering your search settings
  • Remembering your preferences such as colours, text size and layout

There is no way to prevent these cookies being set other than to not use our site.

Session Cookies

Session cookies are used so that we can fulfil all that you expect from using our website. They are used to track whether you are logged in or not so we can give you the right view of our website. This information is stored temporarily and is only used during your session, it will not be stored when you log out, close your browser or use a private browser.

Google Analytics

We use cookies to compile visitor statistics such as how many people have visited our website, what type of technology they are using (e.g. Mac or Windows which helps to identify when our site isn't working as it should for particular technologies), how long they spend on the site, what page they look at etc. This helps us to continuously improve our website. These analytics programs also tell us on an anonymous basis how people reached this site (e.g. from a search engine) and whether they have been here before helping us to put more money into developing our services for you instead of marketing spend.

You can opt-out of being tracked by Google Analytics across all websites here: http://tools.google.com/dlpage/gaoptout
