Deadline:
Doorway Workshops: May 2022
Workshops 1 and 2 Tuesday 24 and Tuesday 31 May
Workshops 3 and 4 Thursday 26 May and Monday 30 May
6.30pm – 9.30pm
In person at the Young Vic
For the last 10 years the Doorway Project has brought together directors, movement directors and choreographers to explore their practice and develop ongoing relationships. In recent years Young Vic and Watford Palace Theatre have partnered on an intensive week led by Kate Flatt.
We hope to revisit the more intensive version of the project but in the meantime this series of workshops are a continuation of that body of work and are aimed towards early career practitioners who want to explore movement direction. The three-hour sessions will be given by Movement Director Kate Flatt, aiming towards skill development with approaches for developing improvisation tasks.
In total there are four workshops.
Workshops 1 and 2 For creators for whom movement is not their main skill and want to expand their knowledge and skill.
Workshops 3 and 4 For more experienced creators and movement practitioners who want to share practice.
Content will be cross referred between the two workshops so you should be free to attend both. The sessions will focus on practical movement skills and include the following:
- The body of the performer as an expressive instrument; exploring physicality as emotion, rhythm, and story.
- The figure in space; creating atmosphere in action and the space; working from image and text; observation skills.
Setting and responding to improvisation tasks; using ‘warm up’ within the journey to staging; collaboration; group tasks.
If you would like to attend, please sign up by 25 April. There are 20 places on each workshop. Please only sign up if you are definitely available.
