We have two workshops taking place on Wednesday 16th November in the morning and afternoon.
You can take part in one or both depending on your availability and interests.
Young Vic: Working With a Voice and Text Coach
Date: Wednesday 16th November 2022
Time: 10.00am – 1.00pm
Location: St Andrews, Short Street, Waterloo (just opposite the Young Vic)
Sign up closing date: noon Friday 11th November 2022
Voice coaches are commonly used for accent and dialect work on theatre productions, but can become an integral part of the creative team when working alongside a director to help actors unlock the text. In this workshop, voice coach Emma Woodvine and Young Vic Genesis Fellow / Associate Director Jennifer Tang, who will be working together on the Young Vic’s forthcoming production of Further Than The Furthest Thing by Zinnie Harris, will explore rehearsal room exercises and techniques to explore accent, dialect and character development.
Participants will be asked to take part in the exercises to better understand the process for actors, as well as to get in insight into the relationship between a voice coach and director in the rehearsal room. There will also be time for a general Q&A with Emma and Jennifer at the end of the session. This workshop is suitable for any director, maker or creator at any stage of their career.
Young Vic: Staging in the Round
Date: Wednesday 16th November 2022
Time: 2.30pm - 5.30pm
Location: St Andrews, Short Street, Waterloo (just opposite the Young Vic)
Sign up closing date: noon on Friday 11th November 2022
In preparation for her forthcoming production Further Than the Furthest Thing by Zinnie Harris, director Jennifer Tang will be exploring the practicalities, challenges and opportunities of staging in the round. In this practical session, participants will be able to explore directing in this configuration for themselves, and as a group gain insights into making and directing work in the round. Participants will be able (and ideally, willing) to take part as director, performer and observer.
*These workshops are standalone sessions. Participants can sign up to a single or both workshops – you do not need to be available for both.
Both workshops are free to attend, however they are not free to run. We kindly request that you only sign up if you are certain you can attend as spaces are limited.
