Michael Johnson

Producer

Michael Peter Johnson (he/him) is a creative producer specialising in contemporary dance, live art, fashion and film.
Michael is the Associate Producer for Jean Abreu Dance, Project Coordinator for Luca Silvestrini's Protein and works with writer/director Sonny Nwachukwu and choreographer/performer Lindy Nsingo as well as other artists. He manages multiple touring, performance and participation projects.

Michael incorporates collaboration across his creative practice and produces new dance shows, programmes and events.

He has extensive experience in arts management and is skilled in festival/project coordination. He previously worked at Sadler’s Wells Producing and Touring department, supporting international choreographers such as Carlos Acosta and Sidi Larbi Cherkaoui. He has assisted choreographer Joe Moran (Dance Art Ltd) in casting and managing high profile fashion shows, (Hussein Chalayan, Kate Spade, Royal College of Art)

He was the Dance Manager for Dancing Makes Me Joyful exhibition held at the 56th Venice Biennale in 2015. He has worked with festivals at the Southbank Centre, Dance Umbrella Festival, Greenwich + Docklands International Festival and Sheffield Documentary Festival. In 2018 Michael was the artist liaison for Taryn Simon's, An Occupation of Loss, a site-specific work produced by ArtAngel in London.

Michael was a member of Equity's Freelance Dancers Network, One Dance UK and is currently a member of IDMN, the Independent Dance Managers Network. He is an advocate for disability arts and works with artists of all backgrounds. He is interested in community arts and engagement projects that aspire to educate, engage and introduce new audiences to dance. Michael is keen to develop skills around programming and curating dance programmes for festivals and venues.

Michael was the founder Editor and Creative Director of Mode & Motion – an archive and creative direction agency based in London and briefly studied Fashion Journalism at the London College of Fashion – University of Arts in London. In 2008 he graduated from the Rambert School of Ballet and Contemporary Dance with a first class BA (Hons).

He was influenced by choreographers and dance mentors such as Darshan Singh Bhuller, Charlotte Kirkpatrick, Darren Ellis, Julie Cunningham and Tiia Ourilla. As a dancer and performer Michael has worked with many choreographers and companies internationally including, Wayne Mcgregor/Random Dance (Big Dance 2012) Adaire to Dance, Lea Anderson & Gary Clarke (Games Time) Tom Dale, Katherine Hollinson, Ascendance Rep, RODA, Hinged Dance Co, The Typewriters and Joseph Mercier.
