Ethan Cheek

They/He. I am a professional, OFFIE nominated designer, having graduated from The Royal Central School of Speech and Drama.

Art is first and foremost emotive, rather than initially intellectual. As such my design process concentrates on providing strong, visceral moments which evoke meaningful and powerful emotions from the audience in an attempt to invite them to be active consumers of the art.

As a performance designer, I am acutely aware of the unconscious and automatic impact that light and sound have on an audience. This has led me to hold a particular interest in projects that utilise music to enhance the energy of the performance piece.

I believe performance to be a collaborative machine which binds together multiple art forms to curate an experience intended to invoke instinctive emotional responses. Therefore, I aim to be involved in the creative process from conception right through to completion and strongly believe every person’s contribution to the project to be of significant value regardless of their role.
