Lara Cosmetatos

Director Actor Classical(ish) Singer

I am a freshly graduated aspiring playwright and director. Though I've mainly directed mostly comedic new writing (all in the context of student theatre), I can't wait to throw myself at Classical theatre on the one hand, and at wildly experimental new writing on the other! My approach (though in early stages of...existing at all) is characterised by twin values: on the one hand, that an actor's sense of safety and wellbeing on set is conducive to their best work; on the other, that a character's story is most powerfully told when they are allowed to bloom, in an actor's hands, into a nuanced individual in their own right.

Training

Eloping from my degree with student theatre is the only reason I found out how much I love all this!

Royal College of Music Junior Department, 2013-2017
- voice, French Horn and composition.

The thing I've learned the most from is busking; I do unamplified & unaccompanied singing, so I essentially need to collaborate with the buildings to be heard, and fit the kind of songs I sing each time both to the location and the people in it. It's taught me loads of practical skills, both as a performer and a person - from drawing people in to finding my own style - and I could not be happier for finding it.
