Isabella Vogel

Hi, my name's Issey (she/her) I’m a fresh graduate from the University of Leeds, originally from Hackney, with a burning passion for script writing and directing! Growing up as an only child I constantly used my imagination to entertain myself. Now that I am older, I am eager to use my imagination to entertain others.

Initially I was only interested in acting and musical theatre. However, as I developed my understanding of theatre, writing and directing became more appealing to me. Nevertheless, having actor training has been very beneficial towards my confidence, especially when directing, as well as enhancing my ability to write believable characters.

The type of work I am currently interested in includes a mixture of naturalism and non-naturalism. I love using sound and lighting to create an atmosphere, but believe a strong script is also an essential element for a production to be successful.

Additionally, I am a big fan of adaptations, such as Nicholas Hytner's 2019 adaptation of Shakespeare's 'A Midsummer Night's Dream'. Currently, I have an interesting proposal for my own adaptation of 'Romeo and Juliet' but I have yet to develop the idea further.

Since leaving university, I am temporarily out of work, but this has allowed me to progress my writing skills, watch productions and learn more about other directors' approaches. Although, I would ideally like to find a job in the industry within the next few months.
