Maryanna Clarke

Playwright

Maryanna specialises in telling great stories anew and championing the unheard voices within them. Informed by her experience as a theatre maker and performer, her "lyrical" and "gritty" work combines razor-sharp wit with poetry to forge a style of magical realism that disquiets and moves. She is the co-founder of Old School Players, a queer and female-led theatre company based in London and Dorset.

On her debut play Six Serpents and a Tarantula:

"A classy production, busting stereotypical Wild West yarns with a more truthful version...It all pans out like a rose opening and inevitably dying, leaving just the scent"
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ [London Pub Theatres Magazine]

"Maryanna Clarke's language and wit is another reason this piece feels so exceptional...totally captivating with its rich plot and wonderfully written script"
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ [Everything Theatre]

‘This play within a play is truly original work in concept, perspective and in execution’ [Standing Ovation Awards]
