My name is Ruby Phelan and I'm a passionate writer-director dedicated to exploring narratively anchored stories in a creative and experimental manner. I love including my dance background in my work and creating a hugely collaborative environment between all creative departments. I am also a proud feminist activist and love to fuse this with craft. My passion for cinema shines through my aesthetic and influences the tone of my work. I take so much inspiration from my favourite filmmakers like Celine Sciamma, Lotte Reiniger, Sofia Coppola and Vera Chytilova. I love working with both historically rooted pieces and bold new writing/adaptations. What excites me as an artist is exploration and the opportunity to mine deep into a rich story and character. I adore working with actors and my extensive background in performance gives me a unique insight into the experience of the actor/dancer which cultivates an inclusive working space which sprouts much innovation.
