Gretchen Egolf

director, actor, teacher, theatremaker, filmmaker

Hi I'm Gretchen (she/her) - I am a director, actor, and teacher. I'm American and now living and working in the UK (since approx 2014). Before I fell in love and moved across an ocean, I was an actor in America. Trained at Juilliard in the 90s and worked in NYC and LA for a couple decades. When I moved to Britain I kept acting but started to teach and direct more seriously. My teaching tends to be Michael Chekhov Technique-based, but as a director my approach is a mixture of many influences based on the piece and the artists in the room. My main interest is in encouraging creative individual input from everyone in the room and finding the piece together. I'll come in with some strong offers but be willing to throw them away if needed! I have taught and directed at LAMDA, Central School of Speech and Drama, ALRA, RADA, Brunel, Actors Centre, and independently. Though most of my UK work has been in London, I live in Whitstable and would like to create with and contribute more within Kent as well.
