Lucy Jane Atkinson

Director Dramaturg

I'm an award-winning director currently based in London. Since graduating from LAMDA in 2014 I've focused primarily on new writing, working across a diverse range of projects, from large scale immersive experiences to intimate monologue plays.
I'm interested in plays about people in the margins, untold or unexplored stories of folk trying to survive and thrive in this complex world of ours.
I tend to work very closely with writers, often in a dramaturgical as well as directorial capacity, in order to ensure that i can properly translate the writer's vision from page to stage. I believe that new writing is not about the director, and if i do my job well then my work should be all but invisible in the texture of the piece. This work led to my being named Number One on The Stage’s list of talents to watch from VAULT 2018, who stated “[my] direction is acutely sensitive to the shifting energy of the writing. Evident but never overbearing.”
