Tomas Williamson

Composer Arranger Orchestrator

I am a composer/arranger/orchestrator who has always had a love for music and theatre. He is interested in using music as a way to move people and change hearts and minds.

He likes work that uses structure and form in a unique and interesting way. Many musical theatre books suggest there is only “one type” of musical you are able to write, or “one way” to structure a musical. Composers such as Stephen Sondheim and Jeanine Tesori have begun to unpick this ideology but I still profoundly believe that the form can be pushed both in terms of form but also in terms of stories we can tell.

I like creating complex work that has depth and is unique both in terms of style and tone. I like to create work that is couched within a musical vocabulary that includes quirky, idiosyncratic and complex elements but also taps into grooves, harmonies and melodies that can capture an audiences reaction and cause emotional resonance within them. Ultimately, I want to create music that has deep narrative and characters at the epicentre.
