James Barlow

Theatre Director Film Director Writer

James was a member of the 2018 BFI Film Academy, Winner of the Sussex University school prize for outstanding achievement and contribution to student experience in the Film Studies department (2021) and Recipient of the UAL Postgraduate Scholarship. He also helps run the Director’s Playground a group that sets up weekly rehearsals and workshops for young Actors and Directors. His films explore themes of masculinity, physicality and love, often optioning for a sensitive, non-dialogue driven approach towards story and character as well as a focus on dance and movement. He is also developing other artistic ambitions, having recently directed his first Theatre production ‘AfterlifeOvertime’ at the White Bear Theatre and directed and choreographed his first dance piece ‘After The Fall’. James is currently an unsigned Director and hasn’t yet worked in the commercial space, instead purely focussing on independent work.
