Marshall Stay

Performer Deviser Dancer/Choreographer Director Sound Designer

Marshall Stay (he/him) is an award-winning Australian multidisciplinary performance artist, working across dance, theatre, photography, film, design, sound, and directing.

After completing a BPA in Performance Making in Perth, Aus, he furthered his creative practice in Estonia (2019-2021) under companies such as Complicité, Pina Bausch Tanztheater Wuppertal, and Gecko, amongst others, resulting in an MA in Contemporary Physical Performance Making with Cum Laude honours.

He has recently re-devised and performed in Theatre Re’s Bluebelle, and designs photography, poster, and video material for various companies including The Park Theatre, and Shoreditch Town Hall.

Throughout a number of his works he directly interrogates the ramifications of technology in contemporary performance, leading the creative process from the perspective of specific technological elements to uncover their inherent dramaturgical potential including their impact on the physical body towards movement and choreography. He also composes and records all the original sound designs for his projects, in order to maintain full creative intention. His work has ranged from audio-led treasure hunts across a city, to large-scale dance works in abandoned factories, and he prides himself on his ability to adapt and investigate across form with rigour.
