My name is Will J. Wood (he/they) and I'm a young, queer writer-director originally from Suffolk. I use art to explore the depth and wholeness of the real, natural world, often hidden and repressed by the systems we live within, working fluidly across genres and forms, wilfully gliding between truth and fantasy. Since graduating from Cambridge two years ago, my main focus has been developing scripts for stage and short films, as well as my debut novel. I am in talks with venues to workshop my debut full-length play Tobacco and Boys about Derek Jarman's work on Marlowe's Edward II, two gay, mythical artists at the ends of their lives. My short stories and poems have been published in Plates of Meat magazine (London), Notes, TCS and Get Real (all Cambridge) and Nea Magazine (Italy). A short film I wrote and directed last year also won some independent film festival awards, including Honourable Mention at the London International Film Festival. Also at Cambridge I was Head of Drama and Comedy on the student radio station, producing over a dozen radio plays with up-coming writers.
