Jude Benning

Jude Benning is an early career playwright and director whose work is comedic, irreverent and fast-paced.

She focuses on stories of authority and rebellion, addiction and forgiveness, accounting for multiple viewpoints. She believes strongly in freedom of expression in the arts.

Her company, Cold Comfort Productions, was founded to create theatre that is accessible to all regardless of education, background or race. It blends the ‘high brow’ with the ‘low brow’ and aims to make theatre snobbery of the past obsolete.

She believes that every child should be able to experience live theatre before leaving school and is passionate about community outreach and the importance of amateur groups.

Her direction style mixes naturalism with verses of physical theatre and music. She specialises in working with and supporting early career actors -regardless of age- who may not yet have any professional credits or an agent.
