Caroline Griffiths

Director

My experience as a director has focussed primarily on youth theatre. My role at City and Islington College involves directing a number of plays per year with students with different abilities and skillset. I always endeavour to select well written texts that are pitched well with regards to the diversity of the casts I work with. Most recently I have directed ‘Random’ by debbie tucker green and ‘Ruined’ by Lynn Nottage. I am particularly keen on working with texts that are open and fluid with regards to character, leading to the potential for imaginative interpretation.

I run a youth theatre company called ‘See&Eye Theatre’ and for the past three years we have performed in NT Connections. In 2016 we performed ‘Children of Killers’ by Katori Hall at the Orange Tree Theatre and were delighted to be selected to perform at the closing night of the Connections festival on The Olivier Stage. Katori Hall tweeted after, saying it was one of the best versions of her play she had ever seen. The company recently performed ‘Zero for The Young Dudes’ at Artsdepot and were selected to perform at the ‘All our Tomorrows’ festival at Belgrade Theatre, Coventry. In 2018 the company were fortunate once again to open the NT Connections at The Dorfman Theatre with our version of Alice Birch’s [ BLANK ]. The company performed this piece again in 2019 at the Arthur Cotterell Theatre for the International Youth Arts Festival.
