Eszter Eva Andradi

Director

I am a passionate theatre director and writer who creates innovative, inspiring and eye-opening contemporary plays that hold a mirror to society and encourage change.

I recently assistant directed a play, titled Hurricane Diaries, which was showcased in the Blue Elephant Theatre in October.

I my Masters in Theatre Directing at the University of East London in 2019. During my time at the University I experimented with naturalistic theatre, devising, immersive and contemporary performances and museum theatre. I directed a short version of The Seagull, devised a museum theatre piece and created an immersive performance.
I have also written and directed my own one man play, Monachopsis, which merges surrealist storytelling, physical theatre, music and projection mapping. To be able to manifest my vision and create Monachopsis, I also designed the staging, the lighting and sound, made and sourced props, made and edited videos for projection mapping, created flyers and dealt with advertising, social media and marketing.

In addition to the above I directed/ assistant directed another three shows in the past year. One of them was a feminist one woman show, titled Dear Diary, which is a humorous but poignant piece about gender, age and gap pay.
I assistant directed an auto-ethnographic play, titled Breaking The Cycle, which depicts a Spanish woman's journey of self-discovery and healing, on which she has to face her own buried past and understand her family's history of repeated abuse, in order to end the cycle and find self- love, self-acceptance and self-empowerment.
The third performance I assistant directed was titled First Night, which follows the journey of a homeless woman.

I have a never ending love affair with physical theatre, especially Jacques Lecoq's pedagogy. I attended several physical theatre and improvisation workshops, including classes with Bristol Physical Theatre Project (UK), Facciocose (UK), Labirion Officine Trasversali (Italy), GAGA/People (UK), Trinity Laban (UK) and Independent Dance (UK).

I am strongly influenced by surrealism and symbolism. I am interested in experimental theatre and my preferred method to theatre making is improvisation/devising. I am also interested to use digital media and new innovative digital methods in my performances.

I am also a writer, experimenting with playwriting and creative writing, using surrealist automatism. I have studied journalism as part of my BA and have been writing since I was a teenager. I also attended several writing workshops, including courses with The New Machine (UK).
