Charlotte Everest

Director

I am an Associate Artist of Kristine Landon-Smith.

In 2019, I launched theatre company Mrs C’s Collective with co-founder and long-term collaborators Francis Grin and Jennie Eggleton. In 2020, Mrs C's Collective became Associate Company at The Space Theatre. In 2018, I completed the role of Director in Residence at Braeburn Theatre, Nairobi.

My artistic voice is led by curiosity, with unique collaborations being a vehicle for that: from relocating to Nairobi for my debut in pantomime, working bilingually with intercultural practitioners, training in headphone verbatim, to collaborating with rappers to adapt monologues. I practise complicité, clowning and often create through movement.

My directing career began in Leeds, directing Churchill’s Love and Information (Banham Theatre). I then began to expand my style, completing a sold-out run of an immersive and site-specific performance of Peter Nichols’ Passion Play.

Since launching my career in Leeds, I have committed my time to working independently and with local councils, collaborating with many detached communities, involving schools and charities to create culturally relevant projects, inspired and directly affected by real people. These projects resulted in devised, immersive and site-specific performances, unpicking the history and identity of the site and the communities involved.

I completed an MA at Mountview in Theatre Directing and I dedicated time into developing my intercultural and international practice with Tamasha Theatre’s co-founder Kristine Landon-Smith. Since, I have frequently worked as Kristine’s assistant on productions, as well as researcher for a spectrum of projects: exploring communities and their intricacies from 1950’s Jazz musicians, Extinction Rebellion, to American female soccer teams.

Currently, I am assistant director to Kristine on a film project in India. I am undertaking a course in Cinematography.
