Philip J Morris

Director

My names Philip J Morris and I am the Artistic Director of Trybe House Theatre. I was previously Trainee Director at the Royal Court Theatre. Trybe House Theatre is a company that works primarily with young black men, which aims to share their diverse range of stories within the wider community.

My journey into directing began at the Birmingham Repertory Theatre (The REP) in 2015 where I started as an intern. I went on to become a Senior Youth Theatre director..

My vision is to amplify and magnify less represented stories within mainstream theatre. I have a deep passion for new writing and love working closely with writers and dramaturgs. Some to name a few have been Joe White, Ifeyinwa Frederick, Ruby Thomas and Yasmin Joseph.

In 2018 I spent 2 years working as a Project Associate with the National Theatre with a project named NT Public Acts. After receiving training at Introduction To Directing course (RTYDS) I directed two showcases with Neighbourhood Theatre at the Young Vic in 2020 and 2021. I’m currently an Associate Artist at Company Three. My most recent work in London was directing Sessions with Paines Plough and Soho Theatre. Internationally my most recent work has been working in Munich at Residenz Theatre.
