Ameera Conrad

She/They. I am a Muslim actress, writer, and director from Cape Town, South Africa. I have worked predominantly as a theatre maker in workshop or devised processes but am very comfortable working with pre-existing texts. I see the theatrical process as an opportunity to extend my activism. I use theatre to try to push the mandate of decolonization through a two-pronged approach; firstly, creating new texts and theatrical pieces which focus on marginalised voices, and secondly occupying pre-existing texts which would have excluded people like me. I like working in rehearsal rooms where there's an environment of equal and shared responsibility, and would love an opportunity to continue to grow and learn as a theatre maker.
