EMILY Joy

Director

She/Her

My name's Emily, a proud Northerner, from Hull. Originally an actor and now stepping into the world of directing, after being mentored by Roy Alexander Weise. I have a strong desire to see women, with all their flaws, on the stage. We are complex and powerful and need to take up more space in theatre. I have a huge passion for physicality, including dance and physical theatre, which I believe helps me create a much deeper connection to characters. I am a founding member of Dead Good Theatre company. We revolve around representation and creating work that is truly issue-led. We tell stories that reflect the world we live in and this is demonstrated throughout our philosophy, artistic approach and company members, who hail from all walks of life. Our first play, LEAVING, debuted at the Bunker Theatre, where I was assistant director.
