Mateus Monteiro

Director

I am an emerging Brazilian Theatre Director, based in London since 2019, where I obtained my MA in Theatre Directing at East 15 Acting School. During this time I had the opportunity of having classes and participating in workshops with celebrated artists like Matthew Lloyd, Lindsey Turner, Didi Hopkins, John Wright, Philip Ridley, Harry Burton, Matthew Xia and Simon Usher. Right after finishing my masters, Itook part in the Theatre Session 2020, hosted by Innopraktika & Russian Seasons School in partnership with the renowned GITIS Russian Institute of Theatre Arts, in Moscow.

Since 2013, I have been working as a Director and an Assistant Director in several successful productions. In 2016, I was shortlisted for an Arte Qualidade Brasil Award in the category of Best Drama Director, for my work in the play A Lie of the Mind, by Sam Shepard.

Now I am is ready to take my career to the next level looking for new and challenging opportunities in the industry. My experience, creativity and cultural background as a Latin artist working in London will bring diversity and enthusiasm to the productions.

Other Theatrical Highlights

My career as a Director and Assistant Director runs in parallel paths with my experience as an actor. Since 2010 I have worked in 17 professional plays as an actor. My performance has been recognized by a Shell Award and Aplauso Brasil Award nominations in the category of Best Actor in 2016, both for my role in Playground, by Rajiv Joseph.
I have also translated into Portuguese and adapted three plays originally written in English language: Playground, by Rajiv Joseph, After the End and Debris, both by Dennis Kelly.
