Constance Villemot

Designer

As a theatre maker I explore the interplays between bodies, spaces and time in order to respond to the play’s needs, taking the text as my starting point and inspiration. I look for words that will give me hints and inspiration to create simple and poetic spaces to enhance and engage with the audience’s imagination beyond what they can see.
Being a set designer allows me to cross different landscapes. To be at the same time a craftsman,a designer, a technician and a builder. I can be in perpetual motion. I have chosen to work with live performance because it is mainly an incarnation of life through a performing art.
Performance has this genuineness that I really appreciate, we cannot pretend nor start again. What I like about theatre, and more specifically about theatre making, is the collective effort leading to a performance.
