Emma-Louise Howell

Writer

she/her

I am a Writer from East Anglia creating work that is inherently theatrical, focusing on the specificity and uniqueness of a live space and how that impacts, engages and influences an audience.

In 2021, I was awarded the Michael Ross Prize from RADA and Birkbeck for my first play, PATTERNS. PATTERNS has since been developed with Leicester Curve and shortlisted for Theatre503 International Playwriting Prize.

My professional debut I REALLY DO THINK THIS WILL CHANGE YOUR LIFE was produced as the Mercury Theatre's most recent Original Production. The play was shortlisted for The Stage Innovation Award and will embark on a National Tour in 2024.

Alongside theatre, I write for screen. My debut TV Pilot was shortlisted for the BBC Writersroom and ITV Original Voices and my debut short film SILO is under development with BFI Midlands. I was named a Wildseed Studios Talent to Watch writer and am currently developing a second Pilot.

My poems have appeared on BBC Radio and my debut poetry pamphlet YOU TOLD US TO TALK ABOUT THE WEATHER will be released in 2024, with the titular poem being supported by BBC Introducing.

I am also a New Associate for New Perspectives Theatre and a Young Mentor at the Young Vic, working on a reverse mentoring programme that encourages intergenerational conversations amongst artists and industry leaders.
