Emily Louizou

Emily was born and raised in Athens, Greece and moved to London in August 2013 to pursue a degree in English Literature at UCL. After completing her BA, she received her MFA in Theatre Directing from Birkbeck College, University of London during which she also got actor's training on the BA of Drama Centre.

In April 2015 she founded a theatre company under the name Collide Theatre, bringing together a group of multi-disciplinary artists sharing a passion to explore unconventional theatre spaces and bold international texts! Collide has been receiving Arts Council funding for their 2018 and 2019 London projects.

In addition to her freelance directing work, Emily has been running workshops and facilitating sessions for young people through the Barbican and the Old Vic's educational programmes.

She is currently based in London, working in both in Greece and the UK, as well as training as an opera director with the Royal Opera House.

Most recently she was an Assistant Director at the Royal Shakespeare Company and a Visiting Director & Associate Lecturer at UAL's BA in Acting and Performance.

In early 2022 she will direct Bertolt Brecht's THE GOOD PERSON OF SZECHWAN with 3rd year students at East 15's BA in World Performance.

In Spring 2022 she directed the World Premiere of LABOR by Anthi Tsirouki in Athens' acclaimed venue Poreia Theatre.

In October 2022 she directed Georg Kaiser's expressionist play "The Coral" at the Finborough Theatre. The Guardian noted that "Collide is clearly a company to keep an eye on".
