I am a malay muslim female from Singapore who is currently based in London. I graduated with an MA in Creative Producing from Royal Central School of Speech and Drama (RCSSD) in 2019. In my time there, I founded the Asian Cultural Appreciation Society (ACAS) and together with the school’s Student Union, organized the inaugural ACAS Fest; to celebrate RCSSD's Asian-identifying artists across different disciplines of art. ACAS Fest was funded by RCSSD SU’s Project By You Fund.
In my time in London, I have presented an original work called “Siapa Yang Bawa Melayu Aku Pergi”, (Who took My Malay Away?) at Camden People's Theatre as part of Barrel Organ's LIVE 10 and Homegrown Festival part of #OccupyBAC. I have also produced a new devised work called The Cardboard Kitchen Project by FK Co-lab, as part of The Camden Fringe at Lion & Unicorn Theatre, and Lazy Native’s Inside Voice as part of Vault Festival 2019 that won Outstanding New Work. I was previously a recipient of the Edinburgh Festival Fringe Emerging Producers Bursary in 2019 run by the Fringe Society and supported by the British Council.
This year, I produced two new works at Vaults Festival and both had opportunities for an Edinburgh Fringe Transfer. Drop dead gorgeous by same-same collective was invited by Assembly Festival, and Patricia Gets Ready (for a date with the man that used to hit her) was awarded The Pleasance’s development fund and was to do a full month run at Edinburgh Fringe at The Pleasance.
I have also produced Lighthouse by Hazel Lam as part of Chinese Arts Now Festival 2020. Lighthouse is supported by Arts Council England and the Flemish Government’s circus decree.
On top of this, I was to launch a new initiative platform - RUMAH , as part of Rumah Fest last March in 2020 (but didn't get to, due to the pandemic) RUMAH Fest was slated to launch on 21st March 2020, at Rich Mix – The festival was a call for allyship to strive for better representation of Artists from the various Asian diasporas in London's arts landscape. The idea of the Festival was to celebrate diversity, as there is a huge gap to enocurage engagement with authentic stories. It is not enough to identify who is in the room anymore we need to move from a space of representation towards a space of ‘Action' and by action, it means to look into resources, methods and visions and predominantly, to focus on people.
