Gemma Brown

I have a BA (Hons) in Scenography & Theatre Design and almost 7 years of professional experience across a variety of costume assistant roles in theatre, tv & film.

Shortly after graduating I started work at the National Theatre as a Dresser. It was here that I developed my passion for a career in costume, furthered my knowledge, terminology and sewing skills alongside respectable and accomplished wardrobe managers, supervisors, designers and performers.
Here, I worked on a number of productions over my three and a half years including: 50 Years on Stage, King Lear, Behind the Beautiful Forever, The Beaux Stratagem, Everyman and Wonder.land. 

Looking for a new challenge, I turned to freelancing to gain further experience in a variety of costume and stylist roles. Since exploring, I have assisted on TV show Keith Lemon, Coming in America and I am currently a regular stand-in wardrobe & stylist assistant on the Graham Norton show at BBC studios.
Commercial brands I have worked with are include: Captain Morgans, John Lewis & Partners, South Western Railway, Very, Waistrose & Partners and HSBC.

Recently, I went back to my routes in theatre, assisting Costume Supervisors at the Royal Opera House, Shakespeares Globe, the Bridge Theatre and the Garrick Theatre.

My ambition is to side step into Design utilising my BA and years of professional experience.

I was recently credited as a Costume Design Assistant to Designer Anna Bliss Scully on a short film in 2018 called “Snapshots’ directed and written by Phoebe Barran and Lliana Bird, which is currently touring film festivals in North America and the UK.

Going forward, I am enthusiastic to networking with directors, discuss visual ideas and expectations for new and current scripts so I can explore my journey into design.
