Colleen Cameron

Director

I'm a Scottish/Belgian actress/writer/director, and I recently moved my base to London, so my network in London is limited for the moment!

I worked as a performer in operas in Brussels in my teens, which greatly influenced my passion for the musicality of text paired with strong images. I trained as an actress in BA Acting Royal Conservatoire of Scotland (RCS), and also trained at the Paris Conservatoire (CNSAD), and graduated in 2016.

I am an artist supported by the Jeune Théâtre National of France, as an actress/writer and director, and I'm also an associate artist of London-based company 65% Theatre. So far, I have been drawn to writing and creating work for female voices.

My first play, BOTTLED UP, is a solo-show that explores eco-anxiety, our dependency on plastics in day-to-day life and considers the irony of living in a world of plenty, in an intimate piece of storytelling. I performed and produced the show myself and took it to Edinburgh Fringe 2018.

THE SEVEN DAUGHTERS, a dynamic and visual show about language, memory and cycles that reoccur from one generation to the next, is my first full-length play. It was a multilingual show in English, French and German, which was constructed from the stories of the women in the families of each of the actresses involved in the project. It was performed in October 2020 at Espace des Arts, Scène National Chalon-sur-Saône and I have been invited back to create a new show next year.

I have just completed writing CELINE / A scream that is not my own, for 65% Theatre, which is a monologue about the lies we tell ourselves and illusions we fall in love with in abusive relationships. The performance is in French with English subtitles, and will be shared as part of Voilà Europe's Online Theatre Festival: Evening of European Work in Progress.

I have also worked as an assistant producer to Edinburgh Fringe Festival in their first Made In Scotland Festival in Brussels. During lockdown I worked as the assistant producer to RCS, helping the second year students develop theatre for the first online edition of On The Verge Theatre Festival.

I am seeking to set up my own theatre company based in London soon, and want to continue to create work both in Britain and the EU.

I have an understanding of how the theatre system works in France, Belgium and Scotland and have contacts in each country. If you make work their too, or would like to but you've got questions, please don't hesitate to get in touch, I'd love to help out if I can!

If you are interested in seeing any of my work, please get in touch, and I'll be happy to share videos/scripts of my projects.
