Gemma Crooks

Director

I've been working as an acting coach for the past 8 years with children and adults. During my years of coaching I have directed both stage and screen productions. I work with performing arts institutions and on local community projects. I trained as an actor at Birmingham conservatorie on the BA acting course and went on to work as an actor for 5 years. I'm currently in the final stages of my MFA in Actor training at the Royal central school of speech and drama.
A large part of my work involves 'Black acting' methods (Dr. Sharrell Luckett) which ideally incorporates an afrocentric approach bringing the inner creativity of the actor and their voices being amplified.
I'm interested in projects that have a multi culture approach within the production. I enjoy working with contemporary writing and exploring the work with music, movement. I get excited about creating a space for actors to use their multi skills so to provide a collaborative aesthetic within the rehearsal/ training room.
