Laoise Murray

Director

I'm Laoise Murray (she/her), an emerging Irish director, performer, and maker. I am a co-founder of tasteinyourmouth, an experimental theatre company that makes work that is uncanny, shiny, and feminist. I also work as a solo artist - I have been a performer for many years but am looking to develop my directing practice.
I strive to create, in a collaborative context, performances that are original, irreverent and magical. I consider the audience not as passive spectators, but active participants - therefore the work I make contains elements of interactivity, poses rather than answers questions, disrupts convention, and challenges traditional form. I aim to create intimate and visceral experiences that will stay with audiences long after they return home: the experience is given in the spirit of a gift. I am inclined toward work that appreciates, but can go beyond, language: image-based and visually striking, it draws from visual and performance art, and takes the body as it’s starting point.
