South Asian Artists Discussion Group

Sita Thomas will be hosting an online discussion group for South Asian theatre makers, including directors, designers, producers, movement directors, students and beyond at all levels of their careers. We will hear from guest speakers including Suba Das, Artistic Director of HighTide, Milli Bhatia, Director (seven methods of killing kylie jenner, Royal Court) and Gavin Joseph (Tamasha Directors Programme). They will share their own experiences and reflections concerning our present situation. There will then be an opportunity to connect, share and discuss some key questions and topics in smaller groups before coming together to consider future prospects and support networks.

Sita leads Tamasha’s Directors Programme. She has directed short plays at National Theatre, Rich Mix, Southwark Playhouse, RADA and Old Vic. She is developing Queer Tales with the support of National Theatre Wales, Arts Council of Wales, MGCfutures and Jerwood Bursaries. Theatre as Director: The Edelweiss Pirates (Mountview), We Are Shadows: Brick Lane (Tamasha), The Rose and the Bulbul (Stockwood Park, Horniman and Geffrye Museums). As Staff Director: Top Girls (National Theatre). As Associate: The Glee Club (Out of Joint, Kiln, Cast), Bitched (Tristan Bates); Zigger Zagger (Wilton’s Musical Hall). As Assistant Director: Dick Whittington (Theatre Royal Stratford East), Pity (Royal Court); Mass (Southbank Centre); Peter Pan Goes Wrong (UK Tour). Sita holds a PhD from the University of Warwick and a Masters in Movement Direction from Royal Central School of Speech and Drama. She is also a presenter on Channel 5’s milkshake!
