3.00pm – 5.00pm

In this session, theatre maker Sandra Preciado will discuss the art of movement direction and how this craft can inform your directorial approach going forwards. This session will help creators increase their toolkit and when it comes to exploring movement for theatre.

The session aims to cover the following areas:

  • Multi-purposing objects through movement.
  • Playing with opposites: Levels, rhythms, speed etc.
  • The beauty of unison/ cannons.
  • The artists input: utilizing the wealth of experience in the room.
  • Breaking reality through theatre.
  • Not stating the obvious but enhancing it when necessary.
  • Angles and directions.
  • Creating portals with props and movement
  • Devising
  • Taking a story and telling it only with movement.
  • Color and texture as part of movement.

At the end of the session participants will be able to look at any given piece and reimagine its staging possibilities.

The session is for anyone with an interest on how movement works onstage. Directors and designers welcome. Participants can feel free to bring any movement related questions for specific scenes to discuss with the group.
