Rehearsals from: Mon 17 Oct 2022
Technical Rehearsals: week commencing 7 Nov 2022
First Preview: week commencing 28 Nov 2022
Press Performances: week commencing 5 Dec 2022
Final Performance: Sat 11 Feb 2022
FEE There is a fee of £5,550 to cover the period from Mon 17 Oct 2022. You will be working three/ four days a week up to the press week and then watching the show once a week during the run.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES The Associate Director will be working within a team that also includes an Assistant Director and their specific responsibilities include:
- To be responsible for the artistic upkeep of the show
- To keep the show maintained according to the director’s wishes
- To respond to emergencies and illness within the company and find solutions
- To watch and note the show on a regular basis (twice a week)
- To direct the artists and understudies as required
- To rehearse and direct the understudies as required
- To take artistic responsibility for publicity performances and outside events
- To have regular catch-ups with the producer
- Support the Assistant Director through rehearsals to the press night.
- To perform any other services that are normally expected of an associate director
This list of responsibilities is not exhaustive, and the employee will be required to perform duties outside of this as required.
SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE We are looking for an Associate Director who can demonstrate they have:
- Worked as an Associate on at least one large-scale show and experience in maintaining a production over a long run
- Experience working on musical theatre and ability to work confidently with actors, dancers and musicians
- Knowledge of South African context of Mandela’s life
- Experience in dramaturgy and/or working on new work
